Appalachian Power to Begin Work on Lower 9th St. Vault

Beginning Monday, May 20 and continuing through Friday, July 19, 7:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m., a portion of Ninth Street (from Main Street to Commerce Street) will be closed to accommodate underground work being conducted by Appalachian Power. During the project, no through-traffic will be allowed on Ninth Street; however, motorists will be able to access all parking lots with entrances between Main Street and Commerce Street.

On this section of Ninth Street, the company will install a new transformer and vault (that will encase the new transformer) and related equipment to serve the future electrical needs of customers located on Ninth and Main Streets.

Motorists should use caution while traveling through the work zones and obey any temporary signage posted.

In July 2018, the City of Lynchburg and Appalachian Power announced the joint Main Street Renewal Project. Appalachian Power’s work is a precursor to the Main Street Renewal Project which will begin in the fall of 2019.
